Flowers play a significant role in Christmas decorations, all over the world. People decorate their homes and work places with a variety of flowers in nearly all possible colors. Churches and chapels are also decorated with flowers and this adds to the beauty of the ambience in the highest magnitude. Some of the most popular Christmas flowers are Mistletoe, Christmas rose, Poinsettia, Ivy and Christmas cactus.

Christmas flowers are used mostly to decorate the entrance of the homes, the Christmas trees as well as churches and even public places. These flowers on Christmas are also used as excellent gift items to be exchanged among friends and family. Bouquets, flower wreaths, and flower baskets… are available across the choicest collection and in the most attractive prices so that you could afford them without burning a hole in the pocket. However there are numerous flowers that exclusive and special and thus also very expensive.

Christmas flowers add to the beauty of the atmosphere and spread elegance and fragrance to the ambience. There are several religious connotations also surrounding the flowers on Christmas like kissing under the mistletoe and various others in the genre. Therefore no Christmas celebration is complete without the Christmas flowers playing an integral part of the entire celebrations and revelry.

Christmas decorations play an important part in the preparation of the event. No home, no workplace and even no public squares are free of elaborate Christmas decorations. People start decorating their homes for Christmas, days in advance and with portable are artificial Christmas decorations now available in the market, people with time constraints can also decorate their homes colorfully and in no time. However, what still remains a favorite with all; all throughout the world are handmade Christmas decorations that add a personal element to the entire ambience.

There are a number of elements that generally accompany all Christmas decorations. A few of the most significant ones have been mentioned below for your perusal:

- It is important that you plan a theme for Christmas, a little in advance so that you could creatively design every part of it. Rather than rushing at the last hour it is better to devote time also for the planning bit of it.

- Try to engage every member of the family in the Xmas decorations so that they feel very much a part of the entire creative endeavor as well as use their creative inputs as well.

- Try to keep the Christmas decorations simple yet elegant, subtle yet innovative and thematic yet safe at least for the families that have infants. Many a times we tend to be careless about the glass Christmas decorations as well as light decorations and that may prove perilous for young children and babies.

- Christmas decorations like ornamented Christmas tree, Santa Claus and nativity scene (crèche) are the most popular elements, all over the world.

- Homemade Christmas decorations add a distinct aura to the entire place and therefore in case you were interested in doing it this way, try using reuse stuff, recycled products and a variety of regular articles that you could put to use.

Easy and Beautiful, A Fiber Optic Christmas Tree

No more messy light strings to untangle and trip over! A fiber optic Christmas tree is an easy solution to traditional alternatives like live and artificial trees. A fiber optic tree has strands of pure glass or transparent plastic tubing surrounded by reflective coating, which projects light from one end of the strand out the other. This tree displays a spectacular light show of colors that change on a color wheel, transforming your decorating theme into a fabulously attractive display of twinkling lights. Fiber optic lights are also very energy efficient, using less energy than the average Christmas bulbs, and they are completely safe; no fire hazard, and no worries. Good news for your pets too! No more light strands pulled off the tree by your kitty, or chewed electrical cords (yikes!)!

Artificial fiber optic Christmas trees as well as fiber optic angels, santas, stars, lanterns, candles, snowflakes, and other ornaments are also available from a number of retailers both locally and online. A number of internet retailers like www.mainlandmart.com, www.amazon.com, www.ez-tree.com, or www.artificial-christmas-tree.com and many others, feature beautiful fiber optic decorations in addition to trees that light up in rotating rainbow colors. Yard ornaments are also available featuring garden stick lights with solar powered, super bright, weather proof LED color changing lights. No electrical cords are required either; these decorations use AAA rechargeable batteries that stay lit up to ten hours after fully charged. No fumbling with cords and bulbs with bulky gloves while trudging through the snow and cold. Quick and easy and back to sipping eggnog by the warmth of the fire!

If you’re a fan of full size tree, brighten your holiday season with a pre-lit artificial noble fir fiber optic Christmas tree, a favorite because of its wonderful proportions. If you don’t have a lot of space, think geek and check out trees that are powered by your computer’s USB port, or power the little tree with AAA batteries. Fiber optics is the green way to go; they use less energy than traditional Christmas bulbs, and you can pack your tree away to enjoy for years to come. They come in all different sizes to accommodate any size space, so that anyone can enjoy a festive Christmas tree lit with fiber optic power. These trees are truly beautiful and add a festive touch to your holiday light display. Enjoy the season – Merry Christmas!

There is nothing more festive than having a freshly cut Christmas tree in the house. The aroma of the pine says “Happy Holidays” like almost nothing else. Of course, there is the chilly trip to a tree lot to choose that perfect holiday icon. Then there is the process of loading it onto the car, driving home on a wing and a prayer that the tree will remain in place until you get to your driveway, and getting the tree into the home without breaking any valuables or losing any needles from the branches. Once the tree is up and decorated, you must constantly check the water level to ensure that your fresh tree does indeed stay fresh. Finally, once the holidays have ended, you will need to undecorated your tree, remove it from your living room and possibly load it back onto your car for proper disposal. Let’s face it; fresh Christmas trees can be a lot of work and mess, which is undoubtedly why artificial Christmas trees have gained popularity over the decades.

Manmade Beauty

Today’s artificial Christmas trees can be quite lifelike in appearance. Some will have needles that are sturdy and pointed like a real spruce tree, rather than offering an image of a bristle brush like so many artificial Christmas trees of the past. You can also purchase artificial Christmas trees that are pre-strung with light strands, saving you the hassle and frustration of stringing your own. The other fun in artificial Christmas trees is that you can choose from an assortment of styles and colors to match your holiday décor in any theme. Don’t like the traditional look of an evergreen? Why not check out the selection of pink and white feather trees that are lining the shelves of Christmas stores today? You can even find wreaths for your door in matching colors and styles. Another popular look is to buy a flocked tree that looks as though it has been standing out in a snowy meadow. Only without the puddle of water collecting on your living room carpet!

Trends through the Ages

In the middle of the last century, aluminum trees came on the scene and offered variety to the many Christmas decorators of the time. No longer were you limited by green trees, when selections were abundant in silver, blue and pink. A few years ago, upside down artificial Christmas trees became the rage. These trees would either set into stands on the ground or suspend from the ceiling. Upside down artificial Christmas trees made a fun focal point to many homes, and the additional space underneath the tree made a convenient space for housing presents. Another big trend today are the pre-lit artificial Christmas trees that come in a variety of colors and styles, taking much of the extra work out of your holiday decorating.

With the versatility and ease of the artificial Christmas tree, there is little doubt that this holiday tradition will be a popular one for many years to come. Artificial Christmas trees can add fun and creativity to your holiday decorating.

The Christmas season is a fun and joyful time for those who enjoy decorating their home. It is important to realize that you do not have to go all out. You can decide to simply decorate a table or to decorate your entire home. Traditional Christmas decorating has been around for centuries and taking some hints from the days gone by will help to make your home into a beautiful place that is filled with Christmas spirit and joy.

Christmas Decorations for Your Table

You can decorate your home without spending a lot of money. Simply go into the woods and find some pine cones that you can spray paint gold. After the paint dries you can add some fake snow. This will create a beautiful centerpiece for your table. You can add holly leaves, mistletoe and tinsel to make a beautiful, inexpensive Christmas table that is also a very old Celtic symbol of fertility.

Christmas Tree

The Germans started the Christmas tree tradition, which has become one of the most popular traditions around at this time of the year. There are many different types of trees that you can choose from. What you decide to choose is entirely a personal preference. In the olden days candles were used to light Christmas trees but they are quite dangerous, especially if the tree's needles became dry and brittle. This is why today it is quite normal to use electric lights. In fact, most people use several strands of lights to turn their tree into a twinkling beauty. As you can see, it is quite easy to go over the edge with Christmas decorations but in most cases it you are better off to keep things simple.

Christmas Decorations inside Your Home

Colored paper, silver tinsel and fake snow can all be used to make your home into a Christmas delight. Taking some time to add such touches as fake snow to your windows, holly above the doors and some mistletoe in the doorways will help you to create a Christmas that is full of joy. All of this can be done by simply adding a few Christmas decorating touches to your home.

Christmas Decorations outside Your Home

People used to place Christmas decorations on the outside of their home with a simple holly wreath, but now you see yards and homes decorated with thousands of lights, figurines and blow-up figures. It is easy to overdo things here so remember that simple is better, especially when it comes to the outside of your home.

Before electric Christmas lights were invented, people depended upon candlelight to illuminate their Christmas trees. As you might imagine, the practice of putting lighted candles onto a cut evergreen tree caused more that its share of fires. That hazard began to get a whole lot safer in the year 1882, when the first Christmas tree was set aglow with the aid of electricity. A man by the name of Edward H. Johnson invented the first Christmas tree that was illuminated by electricity. Johnson, who was an inventor and an associate of Thomas Edison, came to be known as the Father of Electric Christmas Tree Lights. On December 22, 1882, he proudly displayed his electrically lit Christmas lights on his tree at his home on Fifth Avenue in New York City.

In 1895, Christmas lights came to the White House, when President Grover Cleveland lit the first electrically illuminated tree with more than 100 lights on it of various colors. By the first part of the next century, Christmas lights began to appear outdoors in cities like San Diego and New York City. However, it still took many years before electric Christmas lights began making an appearance on famous Christmas trees like the ones at Rockefeller Center in New York and Disney’s Christmas tree. Within a few years after Christmas tree lights became more commonplace, Christmas lights began showing up in other areas as well, such as strung along mantles or doorways or outlining the rafters of houses.

Christmas Lights Today

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, Christmas lights have become a work of art in themselves, with new ways of displaying their illumination getting invented all the time. The incandescent lights that many of us grew up with are now being replaced in many homes with the more efficient and reliable LED Christmas lights. A number of years ago, bubble lights were all the rage. These lights featured long glass tubes with colored liquid bubbling within. This style of holiday lights peaked in popularity around the 1950’s, but you can still find versions of the bubble Christmas lights in stores today. They have become popular for a retro Christmas theme for many holiday decorators.

No matter what types of Christmas lights you decide to use, or how you decide to use them, this holiday tradition has become a staple in many homes today. In fact, it would hardly seem like Christmas without a few strands of Christmas lights twinkling throughout the home and neighborhood.

In A.D. 336, an early Roman calendar first mentions December 25 as the date of Jesus birth. More than likely, this date was influenced by the year-end pagan festivals that celebrated the harvest. Included in these celebrations were specially prepared meals, decorating homes, giving gifts and singing. As you can see, these pagan traditions gradually became a part of the Christian celebration itself.

The Earliest Christmas Ornaments for Trees

The earliest Christmas trees were found in Germany where they were decorated with such Christmas decorations as apples, onions, pears, nuts, candies and fruits. It was not until the 1800s that glass Christmas ornaments were first made. This took place Lauscha, Germany where the entire family was part of the business. This beautiful new glass Christmas ornaments began to replace edible decorations.

Until 1925, almost all of the hand blown glass Christmas ornaments were manufactured in Lauscha, Germany. During this time there were more than 250 million Christmas ornaments being imported into the United States alone. However, all of this changed after World War II, which is when the Lauscha area became a part of East Germany. At this time there were a lot of glassblowers who fled to West Germany and the industry began to decline at this time. It was also around this time that both Japan and Czechoslovakia began to produce glass Christmas ornaments for the North American market

Unfortunately, in the 1960's glass Christmas ornaments went out of fashion. This is when the aluminum Christmas tree, adorned with ornaments that were shaped and colored from aluminum, became quite popular. During this time a lot of the traditional Christmas ornaments were thrown away.

What to Look for in Antique Christmas Ornaments

If you are lucky enough to still have any vintage Christmas ornaments, then you really should hang on to them. Of course, it is difficult to tell whether or not they are truly vintage- but it can be done. This is because earlier ornaments were smaller than today’s modern ornaments and they were usually created out of soft colors and had many hand-painted details. Of course, this paint may be either faded or distressed in areas of the ornament today.

The best places to find these ornaments today is on Ebay, at flea markets, at church sales and at garage sales too. You will want to check them carefully by removing the stem from the base of the ornament. If the base is uneven, then you can be sure that this was a hand blown ornament because the glass blower is unable to make a clean break whereas modern machinery can do so.

The history of the Christmas tree is as varied as the decorations used to decorate today’s most common symbol of the holiday. While different cultures lay claim to making the practice of decorating an evergreen an annual tradition, it is believed that the tradition of setting up a Christmas tree was begun ion the 16th century. Originally decorated with fruits and nuts for the children to enjoy may have the edge, with a plaque claiming the home of the first tree was in Latvia in the year 1510.

The tradition of taking a live evergreen tree into the home and decorating it with lights and shiny decorations obviously until after the use of electricity was wide spread. While Easton, Pennsylvania lays claim to having the first Christmas tree in the United States in 1816, other communities also claim a role in making this an annual tradition. Windsor Locks, Connecticut says it started there in 1777 and Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1821.

There is little dispute, however that German immigrant August Imgard was the first to popularize decorating a Christmas tree and the National Confectioners Association recognizes him as the first to use candy canes on a tree. In 1847, Imgard felled a tree outside his hometown in Wooster, Ohio and had a tinsmith in town fashion a metal star for the top.

Length Of Stay Often Debated By Families

In the earliest days in the United States, the Christmas tree was traditionally set up on Christmas Eve, often after young children were in bed and credit was given to Santa Claus so there might be a place under which presents could be left. The Christmas tree was typically taken down the day after Christmas, a tradition rarely observed today. Many families begin decorating their homes the weekend after Thanksgiving and leave their decorations in place until after New Year’s Day.

The length of time a tree remains in the home was lengthened after the use of the artificial Christmas tree became more widely accepted. The potential of fire from having a live tree in the home made it prudent to remove it once the tree began frying out from the warmth of the house.

Many of the artificial Christmas trees made today are remarkably lifelike and with a little bit of artificial pine scent, they look as well as smell like the real thing. They can also be found in a wide range of sizes that enable families to erect a Christmas tree is just about any room of the house they choose.

It would hardly seem like Christmas without at least one tree gracing the inside of your home. Some folks even enjoy decorating multiple Christmas trees for the season, indoors and out. You can find fresh trees and artificial trees, aluminum and feather trees, and even trees that are designed to be displayed upside down. You can hang tinsels, ornaments or popcorn from its branches. You can put presents underneath and a star on top. Christmas trees are a staple of our holiday decorating today. But have you ever wondered where this holiday tradition began?

A Visit to Germany

It is not easy to trace the historic line of the Christmas tree precisely; however, it does appear that the tree as we know it today first began in Germany in the 16th century. Early reports during this time describe a small fir tree decorated with fruit, nuts and paper flowers observed in the guild house. Another reference from this time period is a description of people carrying small trees decorated with cheese and apples. However, there are also reports of Martin Luther decorating the first Christmas tree to symbolize the stars that shone brightly at night. During this same century, Riga, Latvia claims to be the home of the first Christmas tree as well.

The Evolution

By the latter part of the 18th century, it is thought that illuminated Christmas trees had come onto the scene. Since electricity had not been invented at this time, the trees were lit with candles that were stuck onto the tree branches with melted wax. During these decades, the idea of a tree as a part of holiday tradition began to spread, with many countries and cultures offering historical reports of the presence of these icons in a variety of sizes and styles.

By the late 1800
