Cool Christmas Gift

Christmas is just around the corner, and you’re probably scratching your head in wonder of what to get your significant other, friends, and family members. Unique is the key word that makes a gift cool, and not absurd or obscene, and shopping for someone who already has everything can make it that much more difficult. Everyone wants a cool Christmas gift, but everyone’s interpretation of what is cool varies greatly. For instance, what’s cool to a teenager may be totally incomprehendable for an older adult, who’s idea of cool may be a gift certificate for an hour massage or a visit to the chiropractor. Gift certificates make great gifts, but it may be better to select a favorite store or shop and let your recipient choose what they want to purchase.

Your taste in gifts should reflect the interests of whom you’re buying the gift for, and not what you want from Santa instead. On the other hand, maybe the person you’re buying for does share your interests and hobbies. This may create another dilemma; most likely they already have what you have and what they don’t have, they don’t for a reason. Don’t make the mistake of buying something that you would like to receive instead of making the gift choice personal. Unless you absolutely know for sure what to get, a gift certificate is still the best choice. You can even purchase and download gift cards instantly from many internet sites, making it even easier!

So maybe you feel giving a gift card or certificate is a cop-out because you want to be the best gift giver ever! Gift cards can make a cool Christmas gift, you just have to get it from a cool place! Say for example your parents are visiting Martha’s Vineyard, the place they met and fell in love. Get them a night or two at a fabulous bed and breakfast or a whale watching tour if it’s in season. You can come up with lots of original ideas for thoughtful gifts that will be appreciated forever. If you still find yourself in a quandary go online and get some great ideas by checking out this year’s most popular gift ideas. Find unique gifts for everyone without having to leave your home if you don’t want to. No crowds, no hassles, and better ideas and deals are at your fingertips. ‘Tis the season!

Christmas Decorating For the Home

Is your home ready for Christmas? If not, then it’s time to get out all your favorites and go shopping to pick out a few new ones as well! Decorations are truly key to setting the mood and creating holiday spirit throughout your home, and should obviously begin with the evergreen tree. No other holiday decoration is more important for your house than this traditional item. It can be a little challenging but makes for a great time with family and friends. Open a bottle of wine, sip on some hot chocolate, and enjoy favorite Christmas indulgences while listening to Christmas music in the background to get you all in the mood. Trimming the tree is the start of the season after all, so why not share it with the ones you love?

Christmas decorating for the home can be a ton of fun, but may be the total opposite to some people. Decorating doesn’t have to be stressful; it’s really all about character and personal taste. You don’t have to go traditional green or red either; all kinds of color combinations are acceptable. Almost anything goes! If you’re tired of your collection, you can find some awesome Christmas decorations at various locations, including local retailers like Lowe’s, Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, and of course, online. Add to your existing decorations or go all out and replace everything! Of course, you may have a few treasured sentimental pieces that you simply can’t with, and that’s okay too, but as we grow older and our budget increases, we have more money to spend on elaborate decorations if we choose.

Christmas decorating is considered to be a part of the festive celebrations and a good amount of effort put into planning can make all the difference. Some interesting ideas can definitely set you apart from your neighbors. If you’re really at an impasse and have a bit of extra cash for decorating, consider hiring a professional to use his or her expertise to infuse the style of your home with creativity and ingenuity and get a “wow” result. Even if you don’t want to hire a professional, coming up with a few decorating ideas shouldn’t be that stressful if you take a little time planning before you begin. Most Christmas decorations go together quite nicely since they usually incorporate the same colors. Have fun and have a great holiday season!

Looking For a Cheap Christmas Present?

The Christmas season is again upon us, and you may be dreading the credit cards bills that sneak up on you afterward. None of us intentionally go into debt during the holidays, it can just sort of happen as people spend to get into the spirit of the season. The good news is, is that spending lots of money on gifts isn’t really necessary. If you want to go for a frugal but effective Christmas this year, then check out ideas for a cheap Christmas present online at a number of sites devoted to the topic. Find great deals on a huge selection of holiday gifts from lots of reputable internet retailers featuring the most popular gifts for the holidays at very reasonable prices. By spending a little less here and there, you’ll have more left over for the necessities of life.

When finances are tight, we find ourselves revising our gift list to fit our budgets. Every year when Christmas rolls around, it seems there are so many people to buy for during the holidays, and not enough money. It is possible to find great presents at reduced prices, which will help trim your holiday budget substantially. A cheap Christmas present doesn’t have to be tacky, and remember, it’s the thought that counts, not how much you spend! A beautiful gift tin full of home-made Christmas treats may be the best gift you can give, and cost the very least. It’s the time and effort that can be the best present of all. Most people would much rather receive a gift that they can use as opposed to one that will sit abandoned in a back corner somewhere.

Just because you have less money to spend doesn’t mean you have to buy seconds and cheap imitations either. Refurbished phones and bipods at the online Apple Store make a great frugal Christmas present for anyone on your list. Each reconditioned product is tested and certified and comes with a one-year warranty. Shipping is also included in the purchase price and an extended warranty can also be purchased. Another great gift idea is a quality refurbished laptop for an incredibly low price from the DellOutlet.com. Buying a brand new one isn’t an option for everyone, and this is a nice, affordable alternative. Hopefully, you’ve got lots of ideas in mind now, and you won’t have to spend a fortune on any of them. Live within your budget and enjoy the holidays even more!

It’s that time of year again! The holidays seem to creep up, and before you know it, it’s Christmas and you’re still decorating, baking, and looking for the perfect gifts. All this costs money, of course, and you may find yourself running short on funds before the end of the season. Having little or no money for giving gifts this holiday season doesn’t mean you can’t give something thoughtful and nice. If you’re the creative type, gifts you make yourself are the absolute best, and will be remembered for a long time to come. Give your talent, time, and personal expertise to someone who would really appreciate it in the form of a coupon book, a great cheap Christmas gift idea that you can tailor specifically to the recipient. It is the thought that counts after all, not the amount of money you spend.

For most people, money is tight during the holiday season, so what can you buy when you don’t have a lot of extra cash to spare for gift giving? If you like to plan ahead, shop throughout the year to pick up potential gifts at sale or clearance prices, then be sure to keep track of what you buy and for whom. This is also a good way to spread out your gift expenditures so that you don’t have to spend all your money at once. Websites like Overstock.com, eBay, and Amazon are also great places to find exactly what you’re looking for at the price you want to pay. When shopping online, it’s best to get what you want when you see it; otherwise it probably won’t be there when you go back the next time, especially as it gets closer to Christmas

Lots of great but cheap Christmas gift ideas can be found online, if you’re having trouble coming up with something on your own. Check out these inexpensive gift ideas for the holidays like having a family portrait taken, a memory that will last forever. It doesn’t have to be taken by a professional photographer either, which will also save you some money. Other great gift ideas that won’t put your checkbook in the red include hand-made food items or gift baskets, and hand-made craft items like crocheted scarves, mittens, or some other exhibit of your personal talent. Even if you don’t have the knack for making your own gifts, you can come up with something that’s both inexpensive and heart-felt. Just set your budget and stay within it, and have a joyous holiday season!

A Christmas Carol, or originally known as A Christmas Carol in Prose, Being a Ghost Story of Christmas, is a Victorian morality novel written by author Charles Dickens (February 7, 1812- June 9, 1870) and published in the December of 1843 by Chapman and Hall of the United Kingdom.

The novel got off to a fantastic start, selling over 6,000 copies in one week, a large amount for that time. Ironically, Dickens only wrote the book to pay off a debt, and today it is one of the best selling Christmas books of all time.

The driving force for Dickens’s creation was his disenchantment with the world’s economic drives and greed. He believed that the problems with the world were caused by an obsession with money and climbing the social ladder. He made his feelings very clear in A Christmas Carol with themes focused on teaching a lesson.

Themes

On the outside, the novel A Christmas Carol seems to be a commentary on how greed is bad. On a closer look the book delves into many social and political aspects of the human condition. For instance, old Scrooge symbolizes “the man” who takes from the poor, without caring for their condition. By the end of the story Scrooge realizes his folly and gives more generously to the needy.

Many of the characters and places stand for things found in society, such as Ebenezer Scrooge stands for the greed of humanity, The Counting House stands for the time’s lust and greed and Utilitarianism.

Interesting Facts

A Christmas Carol became Dickens’s first ever public reading. It was held at the Birmingham Town Hall for the Industrial and Literary Institute, December 17, 1852. He continued public readings of A Christmas Carol until his death. Dickens intended the work to have a musical theme. For instance, the title, of course, is A Christmas Carol and the chapters are called staves instead of chapters.

In Hood’s Magazine and Comic Review (1884), the poet Thomas Hood said about the story, “If Christmas, with its ancient and hospitable customs, its social and charitable observances, were in danger of decay, this is the book that would give them a new lease.” And so it did. When the story was written, many people had stopped celebrating Christmas as much. After the books release, the holiday became popular once more. A Christmas Carol has been made into movies starting in 1908, plays, operas, radio shows, and television specials.

There is nothing more festive than having a freshly cut Christmas tree in the house. The aroma of the pine says “Happy Holidays” like almost nothing else. Of course, there is the chilly trip to a tree lot to choose that perfect holiday icon. Then there is the process of loading it onto the car, driving home on a wing and a prayer that the tree will remain in place until you get to your driveway, and getting the tree into the home without breaking any valuables or losing any needles from the branches. Once the tree is up and decorated, you must constantly check the water level to ensure that your fresh tree does indeed stay fresh. Finally, once the holidays have ended, you will need to undecorated your tree, remove it from your living room and possibly load it back onto your car for proper disposal. Let’s face it; fresh Christmas trees can be a lot of work and mess, which is undoubtedly why artificial Christmas trees have gained popularity over the decades.

Manmade Beauty

Today’s artificial Christmas trees can be quite lifelike in appearance. Some will have needles that are sturdy and pointed like a real spruce tree, rather than offering an image of a bristle brush like so many artificial Christmas trees of the past. You can also purchase artificial Christmas trees that are pre-strung with light strands, saving you the hassle and frustration of stringing your own. The other fun in artificial Christmas trees is that you can choose from an assortment of styles and colors to match your holiday décor in any theme. Don’t like the traditional look of an evergreen? Why not check out the selection of pink and white feather trees that are lining the shelves of Christmas stores today? You can even find wreaths for your door in matching colors and styles. Another popular look is to buy a flocked tree that looks as though it has been standing out in a snowy meadow. Only without the puddle of water collecting on your living room carpet!

Trends through the Ages

In the middle of the last century, aluminum trees came on the scene and offered variety to the many Christmas decorators of the time. No longer were you limited by green trees, when selections were abundant in silver, blue and pink. A few years ago, upside down artificial Christmas trees became the rage. These trees would either set into stands on the ground or suspend from the ceiling. Upside down artificial Christmas trees made a fun focal point to many homes, and the additional space underneath the tree made a convenient space for housing presents. Another big trend today are the pre-lit artificial Christmas trees that come in a variety of colors and styles, taking much of the extra work out of your holiday decorating.

With the versatility and ease of the artificial Christmas tree, there is little doubt that this holiday tradition will be a popular one for many years to come. Artificial Christmas trees can add fun and creativity to your holiday decorating.

Proper storage of your Christmas ornaments will keep them unharmed for next year as well as for decades to come. This is especially true for antique glass ornaments, which are quite fragile. Modern ornaments that are made from treated glass; they are stronger but they are still susceptible to damage.

Handling Glass Christmas Ornaments

Glass decorations must be handled carefully. Whenever they are removed from storage, it should be done on a padded surface. There should also be a padded tree skirt under the tree to soften the impact of any glass ball that falls from the tree. You should also use an old-fashioned Christmas tree fence to keep your young children and pets away from the ornaments. Otherwise, place your delicate glass balls near the top of the tree. Make sure that these ornaments are also positioned away from sunlight so that the paint will not fade.

Cleaning Christmas Ornaments

The colors of antique ornaments are from favorite family recipes, which were not very durable and with age they become even more fragile. Most of them are water-soluble, so they should never be washed or have any type of chemical solution used on them. Instead, gently flick them with an ostrich- feather duster to clean them.

Storing Christmas Ornaments

Strong, acid-free cardboard storage boxes with close-fitting lids are needed to store your Christmas ornaments. You should try to find one that has been specifically designed to store ornaments and thus has appropriately-sized compartments. Plastic boxes are sturdier than cardboard boxes, but the completely airless space they create is not necessarily suitable for valuable or antique ornaments. Of course, you will still want to individually wrap each piece with acid-free tissue paper, or acid-free paper towels before placing it in the storage container. Bubble wrap or crumpled paper towels should be placed at the bottom of the storage container before placing your wrapped Christmas ornaments inside.

Even with all this padding and protection, it is still possible for ornaments to be damaged by extreme temperatures and humidity levels. These elements can cause stress fractures to eventually occur in your ornaments. This is why you do not want to store your Christmas ornaments in unheated attics or cellars. Instead, you should keep them inside of a closet.

Taking time to care and properly store will ensure that your Christmas ornaments go undamaged. This is not something that is difficult to do; consider it as an investment in preserving heirlooms for generations to come.

Christmas cactus plants are beautiful houseplants that blossom during the Christmas season if cared for properly. In order for the Christmas cactus to blossom, they have to be root bound in the pot. If you replant the Christmas cactus into a bigger planter, you may upset the roots, which will cause it to stop blooming until the roots become bound again.

It is also important to provide cactus plant food to help the cactus thrive in the house and in the planter. There are three different types of blooming cacti such as the Easter cactus, which blooms at Easter and the Christmas cactus, which blooms at Christmas. There is also a Thanksgiving cactus. They look identical, except they bloom at different times.

What the Christmas Cactus Needs

The Christmas cactus has different blossom colors including pink, orange, purple and red. In order for the cactus to thrive and bloom, you need to have the ideal temperature and lighting. The cactus likes some sort of shaded light. During the winter months leading up to Christmas, the cacti needs full sunlight that is warm and bright. If the temperatures get too warm the plants will lose their buds. The Christmas cactus has growing spurts during the warmer months starting in April and usually ending in September.

Problems with the Christmas Cactus

If the Christmas cactus has buds and suddenly starts to drop them, it may be a result of excessive heat or a dramatic change in room temperature. This can also be caused because of a change in the light or a sudden move to a different location. The cactus needs to have the proper dark time. Artificial light can disrupt the cactus and takes away from the needed dark it needs, which is about thirteen hours.

If you give the Christmas cactus plant food, you should do this during the growing months and stop when the cacti is done with the new growth. Overwatering can produce root rot and therefore it should be watered only when the soil is dry. Do not let the cacti become completely dry or it will affect the growing of the plant and buds.

The Christmas cactus is a beautiful plant as when it blooms it gives an array of colors. The blooms are found at the tips of the leaves and will last for a few months if properly cared for with the proper light and water as well as temperature and fertilizer.

Christmas decorating has become a favorite pastime once the Thanksgiving turkey has been carved, and many folks are constantly on the lookout for new and unusual ways to adorn their homes during the season. One of the least expensive ways to make a festive statement is through the use of Christmas candles that are strategically placed throughout the house. Christmas candles can add a warm and inviting glow to any room, and can dress up your holiday décor before they are even lit. Today you can find Christmas candles in a wide array of colors, sizes and styles to meet the needs of even the most discriminating holiday decorator.

All Around the House

As long as it is safe to do so, you can place your Christmas candles in some of the most unexpected nooks and crannies of your home. The powder room is a popular place for Christmas candles to make an appearance, and if you select from the scented varieties, your bathroom is guaranteed to smell festive as well. Another fun way to use your Christmas candles is to make an arrangement of them inside of your fireplace on evenings when it is too warm to build an actual fire. This is a safe place to display a beautiful Christmas candle display, and you can add a warm glow to an otherwise dark hearth.

Of course, the dining room table is the perfect setting for Christmas candles, but keep in mind that it is poor manners to set candles on a table without lighting them when your guests sit down to eat. You can opt for a pair of classic tapers that will add elegance to your Christmas table, especially if you go for colors like white, silver or gold. You can also place a few pillars of assorted sizes on a decorative plate for a centerpiece to your table. Add some greens, Christmas ornaments or even candy around the edges of the plate to add to the festive look. Another way to display Christmas candles on your dining room table is to line up a number of tea lights down the center of the table for an understated glow.

Outdoors

You can also use Christmas candles outdoors to invite guests into your home. Try creating luminaries, by cutting shapes into paper bags, filling with sand and placing a tea light in the center. A porch that is lined by these candles will be a warm and welcoming one indeed. If you are concerned about safety when it comes to using your candles in various locations, you can also opt for the safer electrical version. These lights can give the same look as a Christmas candle but without the concern over the fire hazard that might result.

Christmas cards are big business; in fact, nearly 2 billion holiday cards are purchased, addressed and mailed each Christmas season. This is because virtually everyone is caught up in the holiday card frenzy. However, just like with any other type of correspondence, there are a few rules of etiquette that apply whenever you are sending out holiday greetings.

Christmas Cards for Friends and Family

Even if you are using preprinted holiday cards, you still need to sign your name and write a small handwritten note inside them in order to make the recipient feel as though you have truly thought about them this holiday season. If you are signing the card for the entire family, you should begin by writing the father’s name, then the mother’s and finally the children. Whenever Christmas cards are being sent to either a couple or a family that has two different last names, you should always address the card to both people.

Christmas Cards for Business Associates

Unless you have met your business associate’s spouse, their Christmas cards should always be sent to their office. Regardless of where the card is sent, you should always write in a more formal and secular style. You should never sign your spouse’s name unless the recipient has met them in a social gathering. You also do not want to ever send your personal family newsletter to your business associates. Even if you are sending out hundreds of Christmas cards to a variety of business associates here, you should never use bulk mail. Always send your Christmas cards first class.

Christmas Cards for Special Circumstances

Every time that you send out a holiday greeting, you mean well. Unfortunately, sometimes your good intentions may be misunderstood. Therefore, in order to avoid any etiquette slips there are two important tips that you need to remember.

First, whenever sending Christmas cards to people from a different ethnic or religious background, choose a more secular card that is free of religious undertones. Even a winter scene card with a basic Season’s Greetings, Happy Holidays or message of Peace is appropriate here.

Secondly, if you know that your recipient is grieving the loss of a loved one this year, take special care to find a card that specifically deals with holiday grief. They will appreciate your extra thoughtfulness in assuring them that their loved one has not been forgotten this holiday season.

The practice of singing Christmas carols has been attributed to St. Francis of Assisi in the 12th century and despite many changes over the centuries continues today. Some of the carols that were sung at that time did not sit well with some of the religious leaders and have been lost forever. However, the practice of singing Christmas carols remains popular in many cultures. Today’s songs are usually renditions of many of the older songs used in past religious celebration.

To make Christmas carols more popular with the children, many of the songs used were written to address the follies of youth incorporating many holiday traditions. Since some of these traditions did not being until the late 19th century or the early 20th century, tracing their roots to American Song writers is easier. Songs such as Up on the Roof Top and Here Comes Santa Claus are often used to help children sing about one of their favorite holidays.

Christmas carols are often used as a means of sharing the spirit of the holiday and it has been said that people who do not appreciate Christmas carols lack the Christmas spirit. This can explain why groups of people gather together near the holiday and travel neighborhoods sharing their spirit with others though songs.

Origins Of Some Songs Remain A Mystery

Many of the Christmas carols sung today are based on religious beliefs and through the years they became tradition. It has often been noted that doing something repeatedly will turn it into a habit, but doing the same thing repeatedly at a specific time of year can turn it into a tradition.

Singing Christmas carols is no longer confined to religious ceremonies and communities often gather to share their spirit by joining in song festivals where their favorite Christmas carols are sung. Performers also join in the spirit by releasing their versions of their favorite Christmas carols for their fans to play throughout the holiday season. Most of these recording center on the religious aspect of the holiday.

However, it is not only the religious that have songs about the holiday and certain thoughts, such as those who write songs like “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” or “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer.” While these fanciful renditions may not fit the true description of Christmas carols, they generally are only heard a few times near the end of every December. With any luck, they will not become a tradition.

There is rarely a shortage of Christmas craft ideas, especially during the summer and a few of them will find their way into stores one the store begin displaying holiday merchandise. It is common for many school children to make handmade gifts and decorations for their families, but there are some really creative people that make a good living coming up with Christmas craft ideas and turning them into a salable product.

There are many different levels of Christmas craft ideas, some easy to make and others that might take several days to complete. Depending on the end use of the craft will determine when it has to be started. For example, it may take a skilled crafter only a few hours to design a wreath to hang on the door, while a person making a sleigh and reindeer to place on the front yard may take a few days to complete. If it is to be painted add a few more days for the paint to dry.

There are many small Christmas craft ideas that can be simple to make and take very little time. For example, a small metal bucket, about two-inches high can be filled with small cotton balls, about one-quarter inch in diameter and labeled as ammunition for a snowball fight.

Craft Ideas Only Limited By Imagination

Those who attend craft shows for the holidays are increasingly surprised by the creativity involved in the Christmas craft ideas they see offered for sale. Typically, a person will be working on a craft when the idea for something slightly difference will pop up. Imaginative people can quickly turn new Christmas craft ideas into reality simply by looking at an existing product and adding their own special touch.

Materials used to make crafts have no boundaries and stars, made of thin metal can be painted with a winter scene and turned into a holiday craft. Snowmen and old wooden sleds are some of the most often items used in Christmas craft ideas, with many variations of the same theme. Those who lack the imagination often simply replicate an item they saw, sometimes from a picture or sometimes they buy one, take it hope and shamelessly make copies.

If a person wants to make homemade Christmas gifts, they can also buy holiday catalogs to get plenty of Christmas craft ideas, to make at home. This offers the opportunity to give truly unique gifts and put a little of themselves into every present.

If you have ever wondered by craft stores and craft areas in department stores begin stocking holiday items in August and September, it is because that is when people who make Christmas crafts start plying their trade. Most artisans will make making their items in hopes of selling them as holiday decorations or gifts and they want to have their merchandise ready to display at Christmas crafts shows that usually begin in late October and November.

Even in schools, Christmas crafts are usually ready in time for the young students to take them home in time for mom and dad to use as decorations. The plastic can lids filled with plaster of Paris molds of the children’s hand print, painted or decorated in red and green are some of the most popular Christmas crafts used by teachers. Others may use wooden clothes pins decorated with felt and small plastic eyes, supposed to resemble a reindeer. Many of these craft items are treasured by families for years, until passed along to the child that made them when they move out on their own.

For those who use their crafty talents to make Christmas crafts for sale, they are constantly looking for new ideas. It is not unusual to find items that look similar in many different displays as most steal shamelessly the ideas they see at other shows or of project ideas they find in magazines.

No Limit To Crafting Imagination

For the most part, there is no limit on the materials used to make Christmas crafts, from wood and plastic to steel and foam, material that can be formed into wreaths and plaques are some of the most sought-after. Wooden plaques with catchy holiday sayings are easy to produce and require little more than a few hand tools and imagination. For example, wood cut into the shapes of a snowman and a reference to flakes is always a big seller in the Christmas crafts stores.

Crafters can buy a wreath made of grapevines and add their own type of greenery or other artificial flowers to create Christmas crafts to sell to others. Rarely with you find two items that look exactly alike, especially those made by hands in someone’s basement. There is something about the appeal of handmade Christmas crafts that make them popular among homeowners.

Designing Christmas crafts in a variety of colors and designs allow crafters to appeal to a wider audience and increasing their chance of having a successful season. Keeping track of what sold well and making more of those items the following year can help them remain a popular source of Christmas crafts for the following year.

The process of coming up with really fabulous Christmas crafts to make does not have to be difficult - you just have to have some creativity. Remember that before you get started you should have an idea of your skill level and time availability. This is because obviously if you do not have that much time to spare then you do not want to take on too large a project that is going to be overwhelming.

Easy Ideas for an Easy Craft

When it comes to Christmas crafts to make there are some really fabulous ideas that you can go with. Making your own snow globe for instance is a fabulous Christmas craft to make, and makes a great gift that is suitable for all ages. If you want to make your own snow globe all you need is a glass jar with a tight fitting lid, distilled water, glycerin, white or silver glitter, clear silicone sealant, small waterproof ornament or figurine, plastic jar lid, acrylic paint for the ornament stand, and craft glue to attach the decorative rope.

This is definitely a wonderful Christmas craft to make, not only because it is beautiful but also because it is so easy to make. First you need to make sure that the ornament you have chosen to put in the globe actually fits within the diameter of your jar. Then you want to use another smaller jar to test the snow fall, and once you have done this go over a sink and pour the water and glitter into the globe jar making sure that you fill it right to the very top.

Once you have it filled to the top you want to invert the ornament assembly into the water and screw the lid into place. Some water will most likely come out but this is okay just make sure that you do not lose too much of it.

Now you want to wipe the jar dry and shake it up, which is the most fun part of all. Then you need to use a sealant to glue the jar to a wooden base or to another plastic lid, whichever you prefer, and this will give it extra stability.

Remember that you can use whatever type of ornament you want to place in the jar as long as it will fit, and whatever color of glitter you want as well. Think about the person that you are making the Christmas craft for so that you can decide on what colors and ideas are going to work best.

While red and green may be popular colors for holiday decorating, simply being red or being green does not make something fit into a home’s Christmas décor. There are specific notions about what make a good holiday decoration and what fits and what does not is strictly up to the homeowner. Each person has their own ideas of what their Christmas décor should represent and most ignore the color requirements in finding items that appeal to them.

Traditionally, snowmen and images or statues of Santa Claus are part of many families’ Christmas décor, and somewhere along the historical road, model trains came to represent a vision of Christmas history. Many companies manufacture train sets strictly for the holiday season and many retailer have found that the only time this merchandise sells is when people are decorating for the holidays. A model training running around the base of a Christmas tree seems to be a staple of Christmas décor.

Wreaths hanging on the door, inside and out, as well as oversized stockings hung from the fireplace mantle all have their place in Christmas décor. Red ribbons on lamp posts and swags made of greenery often hang as part of a home’s holiday decorations.

Tree And Home Decorations Only the Beginning

In many homes, Christmas décor does not end with the decorations. There are dish towels and placemats for the table that add accent to the decorations and for those really into holiday decorations, small throw rugs and welcome mats are placed around the home. Many believe that a fireplace, used by the fabled Santa Claus to enter a home on Christmas Eve, is a mandatory part of the Christmas décor.

Some communities sponsor Christmas décor contests as it relates to exterior decorations as well as lighting. The movie Christmas Vacation offered the epitome of holiday decorating as the house held more lights than most airport runways. However, creating a Christmas décor is not always about the lights. People have been known to decorate their home to resemble large packages, complete with ribbons and huge bows ties on the roof. For most, it is an effort to show their holiday spirit.

In many homes in late December, a visitor would be hard pressed to find any room in the house that is not adorned with Christmas décor. Bedrooms, kitchens and even bathrooms often sport small reminders of the approaching season. Having a home filled with holiday decorations is also claimed to ease stresses experienced by the family members as they are constantly reminded of the season of good will.

The Christmas season is a fun and joyful time for those who enjoy decorating their home. It is important to realize that you do not have to go all out. You can decide to simply decorate a table or to decorate your entire home. Traditional Christmas decorating has been around for centuries and taking some hints from the days gone by will help to make your home into a beautiful place that is filled with Christmas spirit and joy.

Christmas Decorations for Your Table

You can decorate your home without spending a lot of money. Simply go into the woods and find some pine cones that you can spray paint gold. After the paint dries you can add some fake snow. This will create a beautiful centerpiece for your table. You can add holly leaves, mistletoe and tinsel to make a beautiful, inexpensive Christmas table that is also a very old Celtic symbol of fertility.

Christmas Tree

The Germans started the Christmas tree tradition, which has become one of the most popular traditions around at this time of the year. There are many different types of trees that you can choose from. What you decide to choose is entirely a personal preference. In the olden days candles were used to light Christmas trees but they are quite dangerous, especially if the tree’s needles became dry and brittle. This is why today it is quite normal to use electric lights. In fact, most people use several strands of lights to turn their tree into a twinkling beauty. As you can see, it is quite easy to go over the edge with Christmas decorations but in most cases it you are better off to keep things simple.

Christmas Decorations inside Your Home

Colored paper, silver tinsel and fake snow can all be used to make your home into a Christmas delight. Taking some time to add such touches as fake snow to your windows, holly above the doors and some mistletoe in the doorways will help you to create a Christmas that is full of joy. All of this can be done by simply adding a few Christmas decorating touches to your home.

Christmas Decorations outside Your Home

People used to place Christmas decorations on the outside of their home with a simple holly wreath, but now you see yards and homes decorated with thousands of lights, figurines and blow-up figures. It is easy to overdo things here so remember that simple is better, especially when it comes to the outside of your home.

Making your own Christmas fabric can be fun and useful too. Christmas fabric can be used to wrap presents, for craft projects, for personalized quilts and pillows, or for interesting throws. Here is how to make your own Christmas fabric.

High-tech

There are fabrics you can buy that can be used in your home printer to make Christmas fabrics. These can be found in your office supply section or in your craft department, as well as on the internet. These fabrics are stiff and are specially made to absorb printer ink. These fabrics would be perfect to make Christmas fabrics with pictures of family, friends, and pets. You can also use colorful clip art, in conjunction with your word processor, to make interesting, fun fabric.

Always make sure to follow the special washing directions that come with the printer fabric. Some of these fabrics are not intended for heavy use, such as on clothing. Fabric decals can also be bought to decorate fabric. These decals come in many different designs and are applied with a warm iron.

Handmade

If you would like a raw, traditional looking Christmas fabric, then you may want to try your luck at hand printed fabric. First, choose a sturdy fabric that is absorbent, like muslin. The fabric should be a light, solid color, and should not contain any ribbing, nubs, or pattern.

Next, decide how you would like to put the print on the fabric. Stencils, stamps, and markers used with fabric paint are all good choices. You can also make your own print with objects around your home. A Christmas stamp can be made by carving a potato into a desired shape. You can also use a potato sliced in half and dipped into Christmas colored paint to make festive polka-dot Christmas fabric.

Another way to make a festive print on fabric is to splash, fling, or squirt red and green paint onto the fabric in an abstract pattern. The fabric paint that you choose will have washing instructions on the packaging. Be sure to follow them to retain the original look of your Christmas fabric print.

From Scratch

You can also weave your cloth from scratch in pretty Christmas colors. This isn
