Christmas cactus plants are beautiful houseplants that blossom during the Christmas season if cared for properly. In order for the Christmas cactus to blossom, they have to be root bound in the pot. If you replant the Christmas cactus into a bigger planter, you may upset the roots, which will cause it to stop blooming until the roots become bound again.

It is also important to provide cactus plant food to help the cactus thrive in the house and in the planter. There are three different types of blooming cacti such as the Easter cactus, which blooms at Easter and the Christmas cactus, which blooms at Christmas. There is also a Thanksgiving cactus. They look identical, except they bloom at different times.

What the Christmas Cactus Needs

The Christmas cactus has different blossom colors including pink, orange, purple and red. In order for the cactus to thrive and bloom, you need to have the ideal temperature and lighting. The cactus likes some sort of shaded light. During the winter months leading up to Christmas, the cacti needs full sunlight that is warm and bright. If the temperatures get too warm the plants will lose their buds. The Christmas cactus has growing spurts during the warmer months starting in April and usually ending in September.

Problems with the Christmas Cactus

If the Christmas cactus has buds and suddenly starts to drop them, it may be a result of excessive heat or a dramatic change in room temperature. This can also be caused because of a change in the light or a sudden move to a different location. The cactus needs to have the proper dark time. Artificial light can disrupt the cactus and takes away from the needed dark it needs, which is about thirteen hours.

If you give the Christmas cactus plant food, you should do this during the growing months and stop when the cacti is done with the new growth. Overwatering can produce root rot and therefore it should be watered only when the soil is dry. Do not let the cacti become completely dry or it will affect the growing of the plant and buds.

The Christmas cactus is a beautiful plant as when it blooms it gives an array of colors. The blooms are found at the tips of the leaves and will last for a few months if properly cared for with the proper light and water as well as temperature and fertilizer.

Christmas decorating has become a favorite pastime once the Thanksgiving turkey has been carved, and many folks are constantly on the lookout for new and unusual ways to adorn their homes during the season. One of the least expensive ways to make a festive statement is through the use of Christmas candles that are strategically placed throughout the house. Christmas candles can add a warm and inviting glow to any room, and can dress up your holiday décor before they are even lit. Today you can find Christmas candles in a wide array of colors, sizes and styles to meet the needs of even the most discriminating holiday decorator.

All Around the House

As long as it is safe to do so, you can place your Christmas candles in some of the most unexpected nooks and crannies of your home. The powder room is a popular place for Christmas candles to make an appearance, and if you select from the scented varieties, your bathroom is guaranteed to smell festive as well. Another fun way to use your Christmas candles is to make an arrangement of them inside of your fireplace on evenings when it is too warm to build an actual fire. This is a safe place to display a beautiful Christmas candle display, and you can add a warm glow to an otherwise dark hearth.

Of course, the dining room table is the perfect setting for Christmas candles, but keep in mind that it is poor manners to set candles on a table without lighting them when your guests sit down to eat. You can opt for a pair of classic tapers that will add elegance to your Christmas table, especially if you go for colors like white, silver or gold. You can also place a few pillars of assorted sizes on a decorative plate for a centerpiece to your table. Add some greens, Christmas ornaments or even candy around the edges of the plate to add to the festive look. Another way to display Christmas candles on your dining room table is to line up a number of tea lights down the center of the table for an understated glow.

Outdoors

You can also use Christmas candles outdoors to invite guests into your home. Try creating luminaries, by cutting shapes into paper bags, filling with sand and placing a tea light in the center. A porch that is lined by these candles will be a warm and welcoming one indeed. If you are concerned about safety when it comes to using your candles in various locations, you can also opt for the safer electrical version. These lights can give the same look as a Christmas candle but without the concern over the fire hazard that might result.

Christmas cards are big business; in fact, nearly 2 billion holiday cards are purchased, addressed and mailed each Christmas season. This is because virtually everyone is caught up in the holiday card frenzy. However, just like with any other type of correspondence, there are a few rules of etiquette that apply whenever you are sending out holiday greetings.

Christmas Cards for Friends and Family

Even if you are using preprinted holiday cards, you still need to sign your name and write a small handwritten note inside them in order to make the recipient feel as though you have truly thought about them this holiday season. If you are signing the card for the entire family, you should begin by writing the father's name, then the mother's and finally the children. Whenever Christmas cards are being sent to either a couple or a family that has two different last names, you should always address the card to both people.

Christmas Cards for Business Associates

Unless you have met your business associate's spouse, their Christmas cards should always be sent to their office. Regardless of where the card is sent, you should always write in a more formal and secular style. You should never sign your spouse's name unless the recipient has met them in a social gathering. You also do not want to ever send your personal family newsletter to your business associates. Even if you are sending out hundreds of Christmas cards to a variety of business associates here, you should never use bulk mail. Always send your Christmas cards first class.

Christmas Cards for Special Circumstances

Every time that you send out a holiday greeting, you mean well. Unfortunately, sometimes your good intentions may be misunderstood. Therefore, in order to avoid any etiquette slips there are two important tips that you need to remember.

First, whenever sending Christmas cards to people from a different ethnic or religious background, choose a more secular card that is free of religious undertones. Even a winter scene card with a basic Season's Greetings, Happy Holidays or message of Peace is appropriate here.

Secondly, if you know that your recipient is grieving the loss of a loved one this year, take special care to find a card that specifically deals with holiday grief. They will appreciate your extra thoughtfulness in assuring them that their loved one has not been forgotten this holiday season.

When it comes to celebrating, there are few bad Christmas ideas, especially if done in the right spirit of the holiday. Many like to get into the spirit of the holiday by doing something nice for other people, especially for strangers in need and angel trees are popular Christmas ideas that allow people to anonymously offer presents to young children from families without the financial means of buying presents for their children. Some of the best ideas may be suggested by the children who have the plans but not the means to execute them, counting on the adults to do the right thing.

One of the best Christmas ideas ever devised may be to offer a family going through tough times a money tree for their holiday table. A small artificial tree can be used, two-feet tall for instance, with silver coins taped to the branches as decorative bulbs and different denominations of bills intricately folded and tied on the tree as bows. These types of Christmas ideas show the true spirit of the holiday and can help the family have a reason to celebrate.

Some of the most difficult times of the year are around the holidays as people seem to believe they are expected to buy presents for a lot of people as well as provide a huge meal for their family, neither of which they can readily afford. To share Christmas ideas with others, as well as the personal bounty is one way a difference can be made in many lives.

No More Income To Offset Increased Cost

In most cases, a family will not magically have more money in December and their daily expenses will not go away just because it is Christmas. Juggling bills to make ends meet while absorbing all the additional costs is quite an act for some folks. Being able to volunteer time for others, or helping out as a volunteer for charitable organizations, may be a way to show the children in the family some of the Christmas ideas that date back to the beginning of the holiday.

Every person has their own Christmas ideas and how to spread the spirit of the holiday, but few actually take action to put the ideas in motion. One of the best ways to make things happen is with a group that shares the same philosophy and desire to help others. By getting together and discussing individual Christmas ideas, they can develop a plan to make the holiday better for others.

In an effort for many people or groups to remain politically correct, they are shying away from using the phrase merry Christmas for fear of offending someone who may not believe in this particular season. In recent years, some major corporations opted to use the phrase happy holidays instead and suffered a serious backlash from their decision that they reverted back to using merry Christmas in all of their greetings. For many people, the phrase is representative of their religious beliefs as well as the season of wishing everyone good will and hoping the previous year had been good to them.

The holiday of Christmas is celebrated to mark the widely Christian accepted date of the birth of Jesus. Although the origin of the merry Christmas greeting is open for debate, it is often thought to have originated just a few years after his birth, making it one of the oldest and most often celebrated holiday. Typically, greeting cards use the phrase merry Christmas as an announcement of the card’s message as well as by individuals either upon greeting on when saying goodbye.

Although not all religions follow the traditional holiday among Christians, it is one of the most celebrated of holidays. While some may doubt its religious roots, they are vastly outnumbered by those that do. This explains why the use of the merry Christmas greeting continues despite a few objections.

Wishes For A Merry Christmas Offer Peace And Reflection

The traditional greeting is often used to offer friends and families hope for a new year, especially with the New Year celebration coming a week after the holiday. The perception is that wishing someone a merry Christmas is also offering hope that they also have a happy New Year.

Christmas time is often used to express hope for a new beginning, marking the birth of Jesus, and is one of the most avidly celebrated of the religious holidays. Religious orders of Christian denomination use the holiday as a means of re-introducing their members to the reason for the season in hopes that a merry Christmas celebration will bring them back into an active membership status.

For many however, merry Christmas is simply a greeting used through the holiday season as a means of showing they belong to the group that believes in the season. However, for many, such as Ebenezer Scrooge, it is a time of overindulgence and a celebration practiced by those trying to show others their importance.

Christmas is one of the best times of year, but not many people are aware of what Christmas actually is, how it was started, and what is involved with it. If you want to love Xmas even more then you should take the time to learn about the holiday and everything that comes with it.

Xmas is an annual holiday whose basic purpose is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. There are many different festivities that are celebrated around this time of year, most of which combine the commemoration of Jesus’ birth with various customs, depending on the particular family, what they believe in and what customs they like to celebrate.

Xmas is typically celebrated on the 25th of December each year and in Western culture, one of the most notable parts of Xmas is the gift giving. Families and friends buy gifts for one another, keep them underneath of the Christmas tree and then hand them out on Christmas morning. There are some areas where they also have a custom of opening up a single gift each Christmas Eve, which is supposed to bring luck for the next day.

Santa Claus

Santa Claus, who is also known by other names such as Pere Noel and Father Christmas, is known worldwide as a jolly fat bearded man sporting a red suit that is trimmed with white fur. Santa is the figure that children believe comes at night on a sled led by reindeer and who drops off presents to fill their stockings.

All people celebrate Xmas differently, but from November onwards, regardless of where you are in the world it is pretty hard to ignore the fact that Christmas is right around the corner, what with the Christmas lights and colored lights that decorate the town centers and shops. Christmas cards are another major part of the holiday, and the custom of sending cards actually started in Britain in 1840 when the first Penny Post public postal deliveries began.

Traditionally Christmas cards show religious pictures including Joseph and the baby Jesus, although in today’s world there are various other options as well that you can choose from.

No matter how you celebrate Christmas or how much you care about it, the fact remains that it is one of the best and most favored holidays in the world. Everyone loves Christmas and it is really the one time of the year when everyone comes together and is filled with love and cheer.
