Book ideas for friends/Christmas?

My friends and I do a book exchange every Christmas and I am struggling what to buy this year. We buy the same book for everyone and one for ourselves and read them kindof as a book club thing. Last year we got each other classics, the Scarlet Pimpernel, 1984, Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. This year I wanted to do something a little bit different, maybe a biography or non-fiction inspirational, or modern type of book? Any ideas of really good books?

Small Gods by Terry Pratchett makes you really question your religious beliefs without ever trying to convert you to any side. It's fiction.
Monstrous Regiment by the same makes you think about the effects of war on a country, but has a kind of fantasy flavor. Members of the regiment include a vampire and a troll, alongside normal humans and an Igor, which is human but not normal. Good book.

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien was a decent book about soliders in the Vietnam War and afterwards.

If I had to pick one of these, I'd say get Small Gods. In high school, I handed it to my English teacher and this year she put it on her reading list. There's a reason for that.
